Where to begin? The Carolina Reaper Pepper is currently the hottest pepper in the world surpassing the ‘Butch T’. It originated from South Carolina from a man called Ed Currie and is bright red in colour with a bumpy texture. This pepper not only has EXTREME heat but a nice fruity flavour before the spice really kicks in…
The Guinness World Record originally tested it in 2013 and it ranked the world hottest. The reaper was tested again in 2018 and beat itself! It scored an even higher SHU. The heat is currently measured at 1,641,000 SHU and peaks at 2.2million SHU – WOW!

Here are some tips and tricks to eating one of these insanely hot peppers. A mistake made by a lot is people originally bite into the tip which actually contains the mildest heat. The vein contains the most heat despite everyone thinking it is the seeds. It is critical you wash your hands with hot water and soap for 30 seconds to make sure you remove all the oils and if you touch your eyes be prepared for tears! Avoid drinking water and alcohol because it will only spread the burn. The best solution is milk! One of these peppers goes a long way, one chilli can easily spice up a five gallon pot of chilli!
