For us the sauce is all about the flavour with the heat. Porto Peri-Peri brings in fresh garlic which is what stands out with the first tasting. What follows next is the chilli that brings heat but only for a few seconds and then what is left is the flavour of the other spices. The birds eye chilli is very hot but the vinegar neutralizes the heat so the burn doesn’t last very long and you are able to taste the spices ,other flavors and the food you are putting the sauce on.
Often with very hot sauces it is hard to taste the whole dish. With this sauce it’s made to compliment and to not over power the food you.

Who is behind the brand?
Franciso Gonsalves Filipe came from Madeira to South Africa in pursuit of a better life for his family, little did he know the legacy of Porto fish and chips had just begun.
Porto Peri-Peri is a hand made portuguese peri-peri hot sauce that has been in the family for over 50 years. It was born out of their famous fish and chips franchise “Porto Fish and Chips”, based in KwaZulu-Natal, Newcastle it has been passed down for three generations.
They decided to bottle the sauce in honor of Paulo, the owner of Porto fish and chips. He always wanted to bottle this secret family recipe. Now seeing his name on a bottle that people are buying, sharing and enjoying just culminates everything that he was about.
Porto Peri-Peri believes in bringing people and flavours together, using the best quality in local ingredients and a recipe that has stood the test of time. It is not just about the heat, while their Peri-Peri can pack a punch it does not leave your taste buds burning but rather, it creates layers of flavour that brings out the best of any loved South African dish.
Their process is very simple, they source, cook, label and bottle themselves, it is a small production so there is only one flavour with one heat profile, they are working towards having more products and flavours but for now we are sticking to the original tried and tested.
