How did it start?
It started in 1923 by Alvin Baumer who came to New Orleans after the Civil War. Alvin’s future father-in-law gave him a personal loan to buy a sno-ball syrup production company on Tchoupitoulas Street called Mill’s Fruit Products.
Inside a drawer at Mill’s, Alvin stumbled upon a hot sauce recipe labeled Crystal Pure. Turns out, it was a recipe for success. Renamed Baumer Foods, Inc., the company grew quickly and moved to a larger plant on Tulane Avenue in Mid-City.
Crystal Sauces is a brand of the Louisiana-style hot sauce. Over three million US gallons of Hot Sauce are shipped per year to over 75 countries.

A staple in our house and on my office table. It is a typical Louisiana style sauce with only three ingredients: Aged cayenne peppers, vinegar and salt.
It is also quite drinkable.

This sauce is, quite frankly, drinkable. I actually prefer it to Tabasco. This will go on anything, and should 🤣 About the same heat as Tabasco red with a clean fresh flavour that’s less heavy on the vinegar than Tabasco is. I recommend this over the red Tabasco to anyone who will listen.

Better than Tabasco – great on eggs!
